Bumblebee dress tour

A few months ago I was asked to participate in the SewingMama Raeanna http://sewingmamaraeanna.blogspot.com/p/shop.html Bumblebee Dress tour. I was pretty sure she might have gotten my name by accident, because I hadn't really been blogging on my own, but I didn't fess up and signed up really quickly (before she changed her mind!) Boy am I glad I did too! Because this dress is Cute with a capital "C"!

I, along with hundreds of other ladies in the sewing world, fell completely in love with this cute little fox print from Joann's. So when I was thinking about what to make my Bumblebee dress out of, I quickly settled on a fall/thanksgiving outfit with my little foxes. I think it was a perfect combination of fabric and pattern.

I shortened the length of the dress into a tunic.  My daughter recently started preschool and longer dresses, though her favorite, are hard for navigating slides and other playground equipment. Doing a slightly shorter version allows me to pair it with pants (playground friendly ) but with the look of a dress (which she wants to wear!) I paired it with a cute pair of little bell bottom jeans, but I'll probably make some ruffle pants to match before thanksgiving.

I also used these adorable personalized button to add a cute touch to my bodice. I like big buttons and I cannot lie; but I don't like big, wonky buttonholes. So, buttons on the front give me an excuse to use my big buttons without the oversized buttonhole. The back is closed with a smaller button.

The sleeves on this dress might be my favorite part; I love the length and ruffle on them. Cute and feminine without being overwhelming.

There is another sleeveless option to this pattern that would also be adorable layered over long sleeves and leggings for the fall and winter. Maybe I'll try that next time!

If you want to try one of your own, Raeanna is offering this adorable pattern for only $5 until November 18th!  You can buy it at http://sewingmamaraeanna.blogspot.com/p/shop.html.

Or you have a chance to win it and some other fabulous prizes below...

Don't forget to go look at all of the other beautiful dresses on tour for inspiration to make your own!

Birth of a Blog

Why "Blogs Like A Mother?"

I am not exactly sure when I started thinking about doing a blog. I've certainly been an avid user of blogs for awhile; photography blogs to learn from, cooking blogs to get fat on, blogs about crafting and sewing (because I need more hobbies in my life).

But in thinking about starting my own blog I had misgivings. I mean, why would anyone even care what I had to say anyway? My sister has a blog and, while talking to her one day, I started thinking about having one "someday". That led to thinking about what the content would be, what the name would be, what the goal would be. I figured if I were to blog, it should be about something I cared about and knew about, right?

That led me to thinking about my life as a mother, a wife, a uniformed service member, a crafter, a seamstress, a photographer, a baker; all the things that make me...well, me. I decided this "someday blog" should be about all of that, those things that make me who I am and the mother I am. A blog about a mother.

Then in a moment of divine inspiration, I thought "I could blog like a mother!"  A mother who is constantly running, juggling a million things, cooking, cleaning, trying their best to raise the beautiful kids they created.

I quickly logged into blogger to see if the name was taken and, to my surprise, it wasn't.  So I snatched it up for my "someday blog."  I think the name suits me well.  I love a good double innuendo, and it pretty much characterizes my twisted sense of humor.  But at the same time, it characterizes what I think I want the blog to be about: all of the facets of life that go into being who I am.  The name stuck and here it is.

I have had the blog set up for at least two years and have never used it until today.  But I plan on that changing.  I still have some work to do in setting it all up and designing the blog, but that will come in time.  Baby steps! I don't know where it will go or where it will end up, but I think it will be fun and that it is finally SOMEDAY...

The day to blog like a mother.
