A few months ago I was asked to participate in the SewingMama Raeanna http://sewingmamaraeanna.blogspot.com/p/shop.html Bumblebee Dress tour. I was pretty sure she might have gotten my name by accident, because I hadn't really been blogging on my own, but I didn't fess up and signed up really quickly (before she changed her mind!) Boy am I glad I did too! Because this dress is Cute with a capital "C"!
I, along with hundreds of other ladies in the sewing world, fell completely in love with this cute little fox print from Joann's. So when I was thinking about what to make my Bumblebee dress out of, I quickly settled on a fall/thanksgiving outfit with my little foxes. I think it was a perfect combination of fabric and pattern.
I shortened the length of the dress into a tunic. My daughter recently started preschool and longer dresses, though her favorite, are hard for navigating slides and other playground equipment. Doing a slightly shorter version allows me to pair it with pants (playground friendly ) but with the look of a dress (which she wants to wear!) I paired it with a cute pair of little bell bottom jeans, but I'll probably make some ruffle pants to match before thanksgiving.
I also used these adorable personalized button to add a cute touch to my bodice. I like big buttons and I cannot lie; but I don't like big, wonky buttonholes. So, buttons on the front give me an excuse to use my big buttons without the oversized buttonhole. The back is closed with a smaller button.
The sleeves on this dress might be my favorite part; I love the length and ruffle on them. Cute and feminine without being overwhelming.
There is another sleeveless option to this pattern that would also be adorable layered over long sleeves and leggings for the fall and winter. Maybe I'll try that next time!
If you want to try one of your own, Raeanna is offering this adorable pattern for only $5 until November 18th! You can buy it at http://sewingmamaraeanna.blogspot.com/p/shop.html.
